In January 2016, the Lima Police Department in Ohio posted a wanted notice on Facebook for Donald “Chip” Pugh, who had missed a court appearance.

Instead of going into hiding, the fugitive decided to… fix his mugshot. Convinced the official photo didn’t do him justice, he sent officers a much more flattering selfie with a simple, quirky message: “Here’s a better picture. The other one is horrible.

Rather than delete the message, the police played along. They posted the new photo on their Facebook page, humorously thanking Donald for his “cooperation”… while reminding him they’d still prefer he turn himself in.

The exchange quickly went viral, shared tens of thousands of times across the United States. Many praised the police’s self-deprecating humor, while others joked about the fugitive.

A few days later, Donald Pugh was arrested in Florida.

His selfie didn’t help his legal situation, but it remains one of the most unusual wanted notices in recent years.
