I planned a trip with my family to fly to SE Asia from the East coast of Canada. I was going to meet my in-laws.
I didn’t want to be on a plane craving nicotine while trying to manage a toddler while we’re flying and in out of airports for two days. I also didn’t want to vape around her family while I’m meeting them for the first time.
A few months ahead of that trip we needed to drive to central Canada to straighten something out at the consulate. I left my vape at home on purpose to break the habit.
Nicotine patch comes in 3 doses, heavy, medium, small. They recommend using the patch for 11 weeks. I did one week of each dose, total of three weeks. I also used the gum when I had strong cravings. 3-4 piece a day.
When the patch ran out I gave the gum and my pouches away, I also gave all my vape stuff away to a coworker.
2 weeks of irritability followed. I was sipping cold water when I had cravings. That seemed to work. It wasn’t easy but I’m not going to say it was the worst one I’ve quit. I committed to quitting and stuck to my commitment.
The biggest change for me is that, and you can maybe see from my other clocks, I used different substances as a form of escapism. Whenever I felt unpleasant or had to do something I didn’t want to do I’d retreat into my drug of choice to avoid dealing with it.
Quitting vaping allowed me to be present, it had been stealing my presence, and I found myself with limitless amounts of patience because for the first time, I could rise to the occasion and meet it head on, instead of immediately panicking and hitting the vape.
Anxiety diminished greatly as well.
Thank you for all of your encouragement!
