And then Michigan stormed the field after that bullshit? You're #16 against your in-state MAC opponent and needed a giftwrapped Hail Mary attempt. That's more embarrassing than signing pro players to your team

u/ckalinec TCU Horned Frogs • Oregon Ducks 15h ago

I wonder if they could actually technically have this game overturned since that call being reversed would actually end the game?

Insane regardless. WMU got absolutely screwed out of an incredible performance.

u/BigT5535 Auburn Tigers • Duke Blue Devils 15h ago

You can file a protest that says you basically don't accept the result of the game on the grounds of unfair play. It doesn't really do anything, but it's what I would do.

This is actually the most openly rigged shit I've ever seen. The time clearly ran out while the ball was in the air on the previous play. There is absolutely no reason why a second should have been put on the clock afterward.

302

And that was after obvious missed flags for a clear face mask and running into the kicker.

Why do I watch this sport? Why do any of use watch if the refs can just ignore the game?

84

u/RallyPigeon 15h ago

All we'll get is a BS statement "our referees have the upmost integrity and due to a clock error we won't ever specify, the refs were the only ones who had the true game time available to them." They won't overturn the result or call out anyone.

→ More replies (10)

103

u/StevenSnell3 Ohio State Buckeyes 15h ago

The clock was reset from 0:08 to 0:09 before the play. So unless the ref’s super secret clock runs slower than the TV clock, there’s no way they could be showing 0:00 at different times. They literally started the play at the exact same time, because the clock was manually set to 0:09

And they're claiming that the clock on the field wasn't the official clock. Bullshit. Never heard that before ever.

edit: Big 10 using Hawk-eye system that needs to be "recalibrated" every quarter to ensure the system's clock is in-sync with the game clock. Does that mean that it slowly gets out-of-sync as the quarter plays out, and the hawk-eye systems "end of the quarter" clock could be off?

Oklahoma State had a similar, and even worse, instance like 10 years ago. Why even watch cfb anymore when the refs are the ones that determines the game. It was 0000 before rhe ball hit the ground on the first hail mary.

u/No_Poet_7244 Texas Longhorns • Wisconsin Badgers 15h ago

I know it won’t happen, but the NCAA really needs to step in and rectify this post haste. This is the easiest thing to change because the bad call has direct and indisputable causality with the outcome; the only people who would be upset by this are Michigan fans.

This was robbery. The clock expired while the ball was in the air on the previous play. Western Michigan won the game.

This should be the one time where a retroactive change of result should happen.

1 - That was absolute fucking bullshit by the refs to put the second back on the clock.

2 - Did Noah Eagle really say "will this be shades of the 2013 Iron Bowl" when MICHIGAN is about to throw a Hail mary?

3 - Scumbag job by Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge for not mentioning it once after the fact.
