Nah, being a cryptid is free.

Running water? Nah shit in the woods and drink from the stream. Power through the parasite infections through sheer force of will

Food? Don’t even need to hunt, just break into people’s houses and steal their food. Call it a sacrifice to the forest gods

This is precisely what I'm talking about

What is keeping you from stopping using Reddit?

1

u/-nyx- 1h ago

Not OP but, coping, obviously.

38

u/CuriousButNotJewish 3h ago

I even have the house, paid off. A whole ass estate where I could just retire and raise chicken.

And then what?

No healthcare, no money for gas, nothing.

What we all need is a trustfund paying us out 2000 EUR/USD a month.

10

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 2h ago

I am not American, from what I saw on Reddit 24k a year means you’re a barely surviving subhuman ?

7

u/Sayakai 2h ago

24k Euros in Europe is a lot different from 24k Dollars in the US.

0

u/adenosine-5 1h ago

24k in Europe is not really that much.

Its fine if you are living in some remote region or have your own house, so your costs are low.

And that is talking about Eastern Europe - I assume its much less in the West.

3

u/Sayakai 1h ago

It isn't that much, but it's enough to live a modest life for sure.

3

u/omgitsJohnRedd1t0r 2h ago

I think poverty line is just under 16K. I don't know what the cut off is, but there are a lot of social programs people no longer have access to once they hit a certain amount of money. It's why people choose to intentionally not work and collect money instead. They have to work a bunch to basically be in the same position, so they choose not to work at all or bounce to unemployment over and over.

I grew up in a family like that and hated it. I got a work permit when I was 15 and moved out when I was 16.

My personal experience has been that most people who "can't" get out of poverty usually do a bunch of things to keep themselves there. They drink, they smoke, they do drugs, they gamble, they have kids they can't afford, pets they can't afford, etc.

Anyone I grew up with who was as poor as I was and wanted to make it out did shit like sleeping at work while holding two jobs. You're going to suffer regardless, might as well use the suffering to get out.

3

u/ReturnOfBane 2h ago

The welfare trap is nasty. I swear the government does it on purpose to create "Welfare queen" stereotypes alive.

2

u/omgitsJohnRedd1t0r 2h ago

My issue with that position is that education is largely freely available these days and no one can stop you from using your mind to get out of it. Everyone I've known who grew up like that and used their mind to develop a marketable skill got out. I think people just like having something other than themselves to blame.

That's having been said, I know everyone doesn't start at the same starting line. If you're stuck in the hood with druggy parents (I was) it's not exactly the same as being born into a middle class family in the suburbs.

1

u/ReturnOfBane 2h ago

Education is freely available, but so is mis/disinformation. Huge swaths of people have educated themselves wrongly, and we all pay for it as a society.

2

u/omgitsJohnRedd1t0r 1h ago

Yeah I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the practical application of skills that qualify you for employment.

1

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 2h ago

Or your start perks are depression and adhd

2

u/omgitsJohnRedd1t0r 1h ago

This is true. But once again, people use things like that as an excuse for why they can never be productive or take control of their lives instead of having it be something that develops their character and essentially puts them in a starting position from behind. There's obviously a scale of severity but we all know someone who uses a diagnosis as an excuse for why nothing they ever do in life is their fault.

1

u/DullEntertainment102 2h ago

Location, location, location. Where I live that covers rent&insurance

u/enaK66 2m ago

If I didn't need a car and didn't pay rent that actually wouldn't be too bad. Wouldn't get you much more than necessities but I'd be fine with that not slaving my life away.

-1

u/CuriousButNotJewish 2h ago

Americans are disgustingly rich and many are very entitled also, for them, 'barely surviving' means having a 4 month emergency fund and AC in an appartment with multiple bedrooms they occupy alone.

For me as a European, 24k would be plentiful to be able to live in my little cottage in the Transylvanian wilderness. I'd save up a bit of it each month, even. No AC, no comfortable standards, no fancy car worth tens of thousands... just quiet life.

6

u/CosmicSpaghetti 2h ago

I don't think you're familiar with 2026 USA...

1

u/PhD_in_MEMES 1h ago

Financial audit on YT paints a good picture. Overconsumption on the dumbest shit.

u/enaK66 0m ago

Financial audit on YT

That is not an accurate picture of america. It's Jerry Springer hosted by an accountant. The channel might've started with good intentions but it's just reality tv bullshit now. Cherry picking the most sensational guests.

1

u/Little_Department_59 2h ago

It's about standard of living and availability. With a whole lot of greed from the truly rich thrown in. Prices rise much faster than pay. Employers pay as little as possible to keep the profits for the top. Cars are nearly mandatory in most places since a lot of places are either not walkable or the cost of living is too high to be near your employment. It can be hard to find a place to rent without compulsory amenities added on in a lot of places which drives up the price. Our housing market is insanely overpriced too if you buy. These things don't even include taxes and insurance (which is usually compulsory).

1

u/Dubious_Odor 1h ago

Theres easier ways to say you dont know anything about America. Also you realize the U.S. is "rich" because you Euros forked over to the U.S. centuries of imperial exploitation and wealth extraction from the entire world in order to try and annihilate each other not once but twice right? Lets not be pissing into the wind here.

u/NorthHollywoodHank 57m ago

If everyone had a trustfund paying us out $2000 USD a month the result would be pretty severe inflation, and that inflation would get a lot more severe if a significant fraction of people quit their jobs to try to live off of their savings and that income.

People love to gripe about living in prosperous modern liberal democracies, but we are among the luckiest people who have ever lived.

2

u/ElPlatanoDelBronx 3h ago

If you retire and raise chicken you'd be in much better health, and wouldn't really need the health care as much. People in the country side where I live lead similar lives and regularly live to 90 with no health complications.

10

u/CuriousButNotJewish 2h ago

Yeah, no, that's not how that works.

3

u/291837120 2h ago

Stress controls your hormones, which controls everything about your body. So I mean, it might...

1

u/bashful_predator 2h ago

How's it work?

7

u/CuriousButNotJewish 2h ago

You get an infection and need a hospital. You get pregnant, need to give birth, yep, hospital. You stab yourself with rusty equipment by accident around the house, tetanus shot aaaaand back to hospital we go.

1

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 1h ago

Just have wide-spectre antibiotic pills in your first aid kit?

0

u/bashful_predator 2h ago

Any kind of infection requiring hospitalization is so incredibly rare, like maybe once in a person's life. And hospitals are not necessary for child birth. It's mostly just in case something goes wrong then at least there's a doctor somewhat nearby but the vast majority of pregnancies pass with no issue.

Eta: you're out here acting like people are going to hospitals every other day. Thats just not the case.

2

u/drchippy18 3h ago

We are all pickle people now, we live and die by the pickle.

2

u/terdferguson 2h ago

Sometimes I joke about if I had 5-10m I would fuck off to an island and just disappear, live off the returns. There is a half truth to it though. I dunno what these other Smaug people are on about.

2

u/CosmicSpaghetti 2h ago

I did that in the South Pacific once - it's amazing for the first like, 2-3 months....then Island Fever sets in quick.

1

u/terdferguson 1h ago

I can see that, but my meaning is if you have enough for 3-4% w/d you can move around and be comfortable. I'd love to travel the world anyway. I'm working on it but I do have family that I love and I stay close but its more a mindset ya know?

2

u/TM761152 1h ago

You can't even live on public land. You would be eventually trespassed and kicked out under threat of arrest.

America is a bullshit country.

u/ateiii 41m ago

The threat of homelessness is literally the only glue holding the entire modern labor force together.

2

1

u/abdokeko 1h ago

this would be me soon ... F money

u/OnionAddictYT 16m ago

My version would be a cabin up on a mountain in the Alps with goats, dogs and cats. The crows can come visit though.

At least I already live in Europe, so I can go hiking in the mountains a couple of weeks each year but it's like a 8h drive. This will have to do, I guess.

0

u/private256 2h ago

Same. I envy my ancestors of eons ago who did nothing but hunting and gathering.

64

u/crzapy 4h ago

My body says it wants fatty foods and sleep.

5

u/Guppiti 3h ago

Same goes for me

-7

u/xcanto 3h ago

dont eat too much saturated fat for too long consistently especially if when looking in the mirror you arent losing composition states and youre still athletic or youre not gaining weight and even losing weight

you will irreparably (for now and immediate foreseeable future) harm yourinherent reserve of immense vascular health that, focusing on mammals, every vertebrate has and every basic wild type human has and this has all sorts of effects on your quality of life and the analogy that your inherent reserve is a vast bullion of wealth whose benefactions include sexual pleasure, ease in conflict situations (anxiety, being able to breath), and just longevity of life (all-cause mortality probability to lessen)

i.e., gas station chocolate muffins and even your daily tall boy (especially) as a vasoconstricting agent equals no bueno. don't do it. get on some fucking anti-depressants like bupropion. life can and will and does change. thank u for reading.

edit: "composition stats"

2

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 2h ago

Good thing you mentioned antidepressants in the end, otherwise everything else would mean fuck all

2

Nothing is stopping you from abandoning all modern conveniences and living out in the wild

I'll continue to enjoy modern luxuries and medicine

15

u/03263 3h ago

Hey. No trespassing in the wilderness.

2

u/Nestramutat- 3h ago

Buy some cheap land in th middle of nowhere in Montana, build yourself a log cabin, and live off homesteading and hunting.

This is easily achievable for everyone complaining. There's a reason people would rather whine online than actually do it, though.

9

u/Ancient-Fortune9556 3h ago

Sometimes people like to scream into the void man. It doesn't have to be that deep.

-4

u/Nestramutat- 2h ago

I suppose it's either to scream into the void complain constantly than do anything to improve your circumstances

u/RecipeNo101 44m ago
We should improve society somewhat

8

u/bashful_predator 2h ago

The cheap land in MT doesn't have trees for you to log. The cheap land with trees is on the side of a mountain. And anyways cheap is still tens of thousands of dollars which would take the vast majority of people years to save up or take a loan which takes years to pay off.

Stop acting like it's easily achievable for people. You sound like an ass.

8

u/ProduceNo1629 2h ago

Yeah bro just build a $200K log cabin bro. Are you poor bro.

u/FollowingFeisty5321 34m ago

Drive there in your $200k van bro, roadtrip just you and your six expensive-breed dogs sons!

u/Possibly_a_Firetruck 7m ago

Buy land? Just walk out into the middle of nowhere Chris McCandless style.

1

u/Ciderman95 1h ago

Buy some cheap land, lol. Most of us can't even afford enough land for a goddamn flowerpot despite working full time. Piss off trust fund baby.

1

u/MilkiestMaestro 2h ago

No one will find you in the woods of Northern Canada. Ever..if you don't want it

2

u/Ciderman95 1h ago

Nothing except a bunch of laws and cops enforcing them.

2

u/yesimfinewhyyouask 1h ago

Take Canada woods like the guy above said. Are there rangers patrolling fucking acres of woods just to make sure some Ted haven’t built a hut there illegally?

u/Ciderman95 46m ago

I am European. Even if I sold everything I own I could not afford a plane ticket to America and in Europe there is literally no wilderness. Anywhere you go here, even in the "deepest forests" you won't be farther than hour of walking from the nearest house. And when the missing person alert goes out, they WILL find you.

There was a homeless guy that lived up one of the trails and started a cult. The guy l knew from the cult wouldn't let me read the sacred text so it must have been good stuff. Maybe because l called it a cult.

7

u/walshingtons 2h ago

To be fair befriending crows is awesome. I use to live in a shity neighborhood and I would regularly feed the crows peanuts, birdseed and stuff. They got to know me pretty well to the point when I can home they would gather on the lawn and caw at me and I would give the snacks. One time when I was was in front of my place two dude jumped me trying to rob me. All the crows flew in at started attacking them until the left. Kept all my belongings and only got some bruises. Crows are good friends.

Only time I've seen people say "listen to your body" is in the context of exercising and they mean to do things like take days off if a pain is more than an ache or to do another set beyond your plan if you feel like your body has enough set it can do. In other words, plan out your workouts, but deviate from that plan if your body gives a reason to deviate. How things feel moment to moment is more important than any plan.

The moment a morsel of food touches my lips, my stomach goes from sleeping to "Hey that was good, we should have more of this. Just a snack. One or two bites, maybe half, the whole thing isn't too bad. That was sweet, what about something salty? That was salty, what about something sweet? Hey wasn't that thing from an hour ago nice aren't you bored don't you want to see what's in the fridge? You know you didn't have all that much, you can fit in a little something extra before dinner. And why not grab a bag of Cheetos from the store, you haven't had one in forever you deserve it!"

I have to lie to my body and pretend that food doesn't exist until closer to dinner. That way, when it remembers that food exists and wants to go on a cravings frenzy, it's nearly bed time so it's not doing any more than satisfying my daily nutrients.
