I did not understand why they did not pit him under the VSC, it was a cheap stop and passing was easy. With the addition of tire advantage, it should have been the logical move

Strategy shenanigans or not, I think the moment Russell lost it was when he was leading in clear air while Antonelli was stuck in traffic in P6 or something and Antonelli was still catching him, going from a gap of something like 10 or so second behind at the restart to just 3 seconds when he got to P2. That was when Russell should have been opening a gap if he were to have any chance of winning the race.
Edit: Clarification--after the red flag and restart, not after the VSC pit stops.

39
u/XAMdG I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago
Because the team didn't want to double stack and lose time.
So, given the choice to only pit one driver, they chose the one who needed the most. The one in worn mediums. Team wanted a 1-2. Pitting Kimi would have achieved that.
Pit Russell instead and Kimi might have ended P3 or 4.

For me, that's the championship done now. You can't give up points when you had all those advantages. Now everyone is so far behind and his belief is so strong. Max went in front, held up George enough until Kimi could catch up, let Kimi through without wasting any of his time. Remind me again, who the teammates are 😂

Max hasn't seen a teammate on track for ages. He just adopted one cause he was lonely 😅

Wonder how Toto is going to explain not pitting George despite him being ahead of Kimi.

I mean the explanation is pretty obvious. George was on hard tyres that had a higher chance of making it to the end.
In hindsight it’s pretty clear he should have pitted though

It's bullshit but the answer will be George was on hards Kimi on Mediums

Along with the tire answer, George was only ahead because of team orders so there’s that. They were going back and forth before the team call.

Kimi was on mediums and had to pit. If Mercedes doublestacks, Kimi loses position tot Max.

Leclerc fucks Hamilton, fucks himself, and then Hamilton gets fucked by Ferrari. Monza

If I had a nickel for every time a guy named Kimi won from 19th place using a Mercedes engine, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

People are saying Mercedes should have pitted George because he was in front but the only reason he was was because of team orders. They told Antonelli to stop yo-yoing to put some distance on Verstappen so he followed team orders and stayed behind Russell.
The laps before the order came in Antonelli looked faster than Russell.

We just witnessed one of the all-time great drives from Antonelli. Marvellous. Well fricking done Kimi!

This was just brutal for George today.
Feelt like they left him hanging on the pit wall today though. It was obvious the hard tires wouldn't last.
