May I please eat the entire portion of black olives that has been allocated by the universe to you? Trust me never leave me alone with a can of black olives I would eat the whole can in a sitting I would eat enough black olives in a sitting that I would probably get sick in some way shape or form they are the best most tastiest thing on the planet nom nom nom nom nom give me more

I refer to them as Satan’s Grapes or Flavor Bullies. They taste gross to me and they instantly take over any dish.
I can pick things off pizzas that I’m not feeling at the moments, but olives drive their flavor down DEEP into any dish.

Truffle oil

u/donnie_dark0 3h ago
I've tried many truffle dishes, thinking maybe I'm getting fake truffles or truffle oil, or maybe they're overdoing it on the balance. There's never been a "oh so this is what it's supposed to taste like" moment. It's always taken dishes down a notch, or made them completely inedible.

Maybe not super common, but lavender. I’ve never had something with lavender that wouldn’t have been better without the lavender. I feel like they put it in deserts to be fancy, but the food just ends up smelling like laundry detergent.
133
u/Aint2Proud2Meg 3h ago
YES!
I’ve tried some posh desserts/teas, etc with lavender and it’s like a mouthful of Mr. Bubble.
It made me even more diligent about checking with people before putting cilantro in anything. I do not envy the people with the gene that makes it taste like soap, and that’s a much more common ingredient than lavender (in my neck of the woods).

u/Aint2Proud2Meg 3h ago
I gave it so many tries because I figured the scent was making me associate it with soap/cleaners, and I thought I might be able to enjoy it if I slowed down and really tried it.
I’m done trying it now 😂
20
u/LadyMetalMagic13 3h ago
Some people don’t know there are different types of lavender and one is very soapy. The other is more sweet in scent and flavour.
Some cooks think they can be used interchangeably. So yeah. Some chefs/bakers use the wrong types and it’s best to not use lavender in cooking.

Me too. I genuinely love floral flavors like lavender and rose. Rose is used a good amount in Middle Eastern cooking, maybe more in deserts now that I thonk about it? But I love it. I don't think people are faking liking it, it's just not everyone's thing.

All bell peppers for me. I have always wanted to like them because they are so pretty and in so many foods, but something about the flavor of bell peppers makes me nauseous.

I am on this wavelength. Bell pepper makes me feel like I've been mildly poisoned; sweet peppers of any kind are ick. I once grew banana peppers and no thanks. Hot peppers, though, yes please.
For me the worst offenders are Thai restaurants that seem to list everything in a dish but bell pepper isn't listed. Have suffered through so many dishes I couldn't stand.
